WHAT DOES IT PROVIDE?

DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. In-depth testing is done to identify weaknesses and problem causes. Modality tests and diagnostic reading rests are used to determine weaknesses in perception, discrimination, visual and auditory learning processes, as well as phonics, comprehension, and vocabulary skills. Mathematics skill testing covers numeration, problem solving, computation, graphs, and statistics.

INSTRUCTION: An individualized learning program is planned for each client. Focus is made on the underlying cause of the learning difficulties. ALL INSTRUCTION IS CONDUCTED BY ONE TEACHER WITH A SINGLE SUTDENT or in some cases with two students.

If the prescription after testing designates phonetic training is needed, a combination of multisensory approaches are used to develop phonetic skills, visually and auditorially. Training using words of the same sound family as well as excersises in the visual recall of non-phonetic words are a part of this phonetic program.

Every child's learning needs can be helped by a specific teaching tool at 3R. The EDL COMBO 8 READING MACHINE and DEVELOPMENTAL READING PROGRAM are used for visual perception, memory, and comprehension. Auditory and visualization methods are taught to train students in reconizing sounds in spelling and reading improvement. Also, visualization skills are taught to improve reading comprehension and vocabulary. In addition a variety of materials are used for teaching main idea inference, judgment, conclusion, character development, etc. Timed reading is also used to increase rate and comprehension.

BELL & HOWELL SOUND SYSTEMS, as well as the Audiotronics Language Machine, are used for auditory discrimination of sounds, attention span, and memory.

SPELLING involves both phonetic instruction as well as visualizing, and verbalizing those words which are non-phonetic.

COMPOSITION, sentence variety, paragraph structure, and essay writing are part of the writing program.

MATH: diagnostic testing, remediation program for students performing below level. Also tutorial program for algebra, geometry, and algebra II/Trig.
